New Service for Children and Youth with an Autism Spectrum Disorder
August 17, 2011
The Ministry of Children and Youth Services has launched a province wide initiative to assist children and youth to build skills in the areas of communication, behaviour management/emotional regulation, social/interpersonal and daily living, through the use of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) strategies.
Children and youth up to their 18th birthday are eligible for services if they have a confirmed Autism Spectrum diagnosis including Autism/Autistic Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Specified (PDD-NOS), and Asperger’s Disorder. This important new initiative will also provide education to parents and caregivers in a group setting.
Surrey Place Centre, Kerry’s Place Autism Services, Adventure Place, Aisling Discoveries Child and Family Centre and The Etobicoke Children’s Centre, will be delivering this new service for the Toronto region. This group of agencies will provide skill building programs based on the principles of ABA for children and youth with a confirmed ASD diagnosis.
If you live in the Toronto region contact Surrey Place Centre at 416-925-5141 and ask to speak to the Toronto Autism ABA Services registration. Parents and caregivers can call directly, and/or a professional (such as a Family Physician, Psychiatrist, Developmental Paediatrician, Psychologist, Psychological Associate, Speech-Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker or Nurse) may assist families to make a referral.
