Priority Access

Priority Access is a family-based treatment intervention for families with a parent(s) or guardian who has physically abused his or her child(ren) and who are in active service with the child welfare system. The program is offered to clients who are involved with a child welfare agency and living within the City of Toronto.

This service uses an evidence-based cognitive-behavioural approach. It usually consists of 12 to 16 sessions and focuses on all family members. It encourages parents to change their methods of child discipline and deals with their frustration through a series of exercises and tasks that are assigned by the therapist.

The goal of this program is to reduce the use of physical force as a means of discipline and to introduce alternative and acceptable methods to help children demonstrate healthy behaviours as they develop.

Estimated waiting time: 4 months from initial call.
